ROOFING CEREMONY FOR HOTEL BOSTALSEE

  |   News

On September 4, we celebrated the roofing ceremony at the construction site of our Hotel Bostalsee in the South West of Germany.
The core of the GRAFT design is to capture and enrich the spirit of the specific location. In accordance with this idea, the building figure develops out of the surrounding topography. The building draws upon the impact and harmony of its context to create a new identity for the site and surrounding, creating not only a building, but a destination.
The gross building area consists of around 11,800qm, including the outdoor wellness areas and the covered parking spaces.

THE POTENTIAL OF AN EMPTY CENTRE – SEEKING A MEANINGFUL RESOLUTION FOR THE MARX-ENGELS-FORUM

Monday, June 15, 6-8pm
The Marx-Engels-Forum, which lies between Alexanderplatz and the newest incarnation of the Stadtschloss, is one of the last expanses of undefined area in the centre of Berlin. Here the decision regarding the direction for the city’s future development will be mad: is our urban concept based upon a yearning to heal old wounds, or can Berlin create a new identity for itself? Which position does the creative urban community – always seeking new forms of expression – take on that matter? Can a dialogue between citizens be initiated, that would produce a response that goes beyond a simple yes or no? This panel discussion with the architecture bureau GRAFT and guests hopes to find out.
Panel
Thomas Willemeit (GRAFT founding partner)
Alexander Schwarz (David Chipperfield Architects)

THE EVOLUTION OF LEARNING CITIES – SUSTAINABLE DEVELOPMENT OF BERLIN’S RESIDENTIAL DISTRICTS

Thursday, June 18, 6-8pm
In addition to economic and demographic aspects, social innovation is playing an increasingly important role in the future development of residential districts. The demand from citizens to participate in the process is also having significant influence upon the direction of urban planning. But where can space be found to develop a radical, new and sustainable model city that respects both market realities and different lifestyles? What, for example, are the negative consequences of initiatives like Tempelhofer Feld 100%? Berlin is a city that’s open to innovation, combining sustainable urban development with active technology transfer: ergo, the perfect conditions for experimental, interdisciplinary city-making. Nevertheless, such debates need to turn talk into action. This workshop will sketch out a framework for the model development of an inner-city area in Berlin that respects both social and demographic changes as well as the need for sustainable approaches.
Presented by Triad Berlin and GRAFT

Panel
Lars Krückeberg (GRAFT founding partner)

On April 10, GRAFT founding member Christioph Korner will give a lecture at the 2015 INTERIOR DESIGN EMERGING SYMPOSIUM in Miami Beach, Florida.

The symposium promotes interdisciplinary communication between interior design academics and those practitioners working in all facets of the design field.
