SOLAR CLINIC INAUGURATION IN JORDAN

  |   News

GRAFT founding partner Lars Krückeberg is currently in Jordan. He is attending the inauguration of the SOLAR CLINIC in Al-Mafraq, which he conceptualized and initiated over a year ago as CTO of SOLARKIOSK.

We are proud that GRAFT’s design for SOLARKIOSK has been implemented in such an important project. The clinic has been realized by SOLARKIOSK and the Siemens Foundation. It will be operated by the Jordanian Ministry of Health. It is the first structure of its kind, enabling a superior level of medical services in off-grid settings.

The solar clinic provides basic health care for the local people in the host community close to Al-Mafraq solely powered by a 8KW independent solar system. The staff is able to treat up to 75 people per day. Syrian refugees as well as Jordanian citizens benefit from the possibility of blood and urine testing, services like medical ultrasound and mother-child-care. Once the Syrian refugees use the facilities of the solar clinic, they are registered for the Jordanian health care system.

SOLARKIOSK was founded by GRAFT partners Lars Krückeberg, Wolfram Putz, Thomas Willemeit and German lawyer Andreas Spiess. It aims at providing clean, affordable energy and connectivity even in remote regions. So far SOLARKIOSK has implemented 240 operational EHUBBsin Ethiopia, Kenya, Botswana, Tanzania, Rwanda, Ghana, Vietnam and , 1 Connected Solar School and 1 refugee Solar Clinic in Jordan.

PROJECT STARTS AT CHECKPOINT CHARLIE IN BERLIN

  |   News

GRAFT is happy to announce the official planning permission for Charlie Living.

Charlie Living is the first block of a new ensemble of buildings that will repair many of the gaps around Checkpoint Charlie on the Friedrichstrasse in central Berlin.

Charlie Living is a residential project, consisting of 241 apartments and 48 Service-Apartments. Its court yard will be an open and green space, available for the residents but also for people walking by. The western front continues the garden by horizontally planted trees that connect the green court yard with the roof garden.

The section on the Zimmerstrasse comprises apartments for rent with a common room and reception, along with an apartment hotel, shops and a restaurant. Its two-storey, slightly recessed plinth picks up the line of the adjacent historical buildings and frames a glazed section that picks up the height of the former Berlin Wall at this point. This transparent, almost invisible structure becomes a connecting element that expresses the optimism and cosmopolitan character of the city after the fall of the Berlin Wall.

The project is expected to be finished by 2019.

WAVE – NEW LIVING QUARTER AT BERLIN’S WATER FRONT

  |   News

WAVE is one of GRAFT’s latest residential projects! Two new buildings will be situated directly by the water at the river Spree on the site of the former eastern harbor in Berlin. The construction will begin within this year.

The design focuses on the water front which seems to have washed out the edges of the building complex. The façade has a flowing organic shape. The interpretation of moving water is a formal transformation that links the water of the river Spree and the urban cubic design language of the Stralauer Allee.

On the ground floor there is space for community areas and a garden. All apartments directed towards the Spree have a spectacular view onto the river.
