3rd prize for GRAFT in the competition for Behrens-Ufer in Berlin

For over 100 years, the area around the Peter Behrens Building in the Berlin district of Oberschöneweide has been an industrial site that has impressed with its architecture and production power alike. Today, DIE Deutsche Immobilien Entwicklungs AG is transforming the existing buildings and their uses into a high-tech location for research and development, production and laboratories.

Where television electronics used to be manufactured, the "Behrens-Ufer" is now one of Berlin's largest commercial projects, which also focuses on a comprehensive circular economy with a consistently sustainable concept - "from screen to green", so to speak.

GRAFT Architekten were awarded 3rd prize in the competition for a new building at the eastern end of the site.

We are particularly pleased that the jury recognized our concept for the green façade:

"The special feature of the design is the very well thought-out, technically sophisticated green façade. In a curtain wall made of expansive, sculpturally shaped fiber-reinforced precast concrete elements, planters are provided for which a detailed and well-thought-out planting concept is available. [...] The entire building envelope acts as a rainwater sponge."
