Start of construction for Ice Stadium in Schierke

On Wednesday, May 18th 2016, the rebuilding of ice stadium Schierke officially started.
In 2013 GRAFT convinced the jury of the European architectural competition with the draft of a filigree roof made of glass fiber membrane and won the competition for renovating the stadium. The 2.400 m² large roof spans across the stadium with natural elegance and lightness and anchors on only two points. GRAFT developed the roof structure in collaboration with schlaich bergermann partner. It protects the space from rain, snow, and the sun, at the same time it offers a view towards the mountainside of the Harz and the sky above.

The stadium is one of the oldest natural ice stadiums in Germany and will now be reactivated. The new sports and leisure space in the Harz mountain range will be finished by December 1st 2017 and will then offer space for up to 4.900 visitors for a wide range of sports and events throughout the year.
